Centenary Event
In May 2023, the Murrumbeena Bowls Club celebrated the huge achievement of turning 100. There was a large event held at the Club to celebrate. The day acknowledged all the people who have contributed so much over 100 years to making the Club a successful sporting and community institution and confirmed the ongoing commitment to provide an inclusive and welcoming place for people to stay connected, whilst enjoying the benefits of all the good things bowling brings to local health and wellbeing.
The local member for Higgins, MP Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah gave a wonderful address about the importance of community cohesion and the role organisations, such as Murrumbeena Bowls Club, play in the success and resilience of our local communities. The Club was honoured to welcome representatives from Bowls Victoria and Sandbelt Region. CEO of Bowls Victoria, Tony Sherwill, presented a plaque commemorating the Club’s 100 years which will be displayed proudly in the clubroom. Bob Baxter, who is well known to all being a past member of the Club and who has held the position of President of the Sandbelt Region for a number of years presented a number of recognition awards to members with many years of service.
The organisation for the 100-year anniversary was many months in the making with the Social Committee volunteering hours of their time and experience to bring everything together. A wonderful memorabilia display gave all members a walk down memory lane. Members galvanised to help to clean the clubhouse in preparation, bake delicious sweets and cakes for the day and assisted with invitations and a myriad of other duties which helped to make the day move seamlessly from start to finish.
